Future House Publishing and Masked Republic have issued the following press release to announce a series of books featuring Rush, Dragon Lee, Dralistico, and Bestia Del Ring.

Provo, Utah – Future House Publishing and Masked Republic are teaming up for a brand new bilingual mid-level series. The trilogy of books will center on the megastars of lucha libre “La Dinistia Muñoz” – the Dragon brothers Lee, Rush and Dralistico, as well as their father El Toro Blanco (also known as Bestia del Ring). These fantastic children’s books will feature heartwarming family moments alongside epic battles between luchadores and terrifying monsters.

The books will be bilingual, meeting a need for more authentic Hispanic content for native Spanish speakers. The texts in English and Spanish will be written on side-by-side pages so that bilingual families can enjoy them in the language each family member is most comfortable with and those working to learn a second language. can enjoy a fun approach to their studies.

The Director of Development of the Masked Republic, Hector Rodriguez III, has training in writing bilingual programs for primary school students. He said: “This collaboration between Masked Republic and Future House really offers an opportunity to uplift all readers and work towards creating bilingual and bi-literate children who are culturally competent and who embrace diversity.”

“Growing up, I don’t remember that there were a lot of books with characters that I could relate to,” said Dragon Lee (whose real name is publicly unknown according to long-standing tradition. of the masked lucha libre). “Being part of a series written by and featuring Spanish-speaking characters – a series that focuses on the rich traditions of our culture both in terms of lucha libre and family – is a real dream come true.

Dragon Lee is considered one of the greatest high-flying luchadores of the modern era. Several-time CMLL champion in Mexico, Lee is also one of the most popular luchadores in Japan, where he won the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship. In January 2019, Lee broke into American audiences like never before by signing with Ring of Honor. He is currently both the ROH World Television Champion and half of the ROH World Tag Team Champions and a Lucha Libre AAA star.

Dragon Lee’s brother Rush is one of Mexico’s most popular superstars, having sold the historic Arena Mexico several times over the past decade. In 2014, Rush formed “Los Ingobernables,” the hugely popular rudos (rule breakers / villains) faction that many have compared to the popularity of the NWO during the pro wrestling boom of the 1990s in the United States. Older brother Muñoz had six championship reigns in CMLL, including the World Light Heavyweight Championship, which he held for almost two years. In late 2018, Rush joined the US-based Ring of Honor, where he won the ROH World Championship twice for over 500 combined days.

Rush, real name William Arturo Muñoz González, is excited to share the books with his son. “My son already wants to follow in my footsteps and become the first third generation Luchador in our family. He is very happy to read the monster hunting adventures that my brothers and I are going to continue. But, he knows that we take his education very seriously. My wife and I think the way the books showcase Spanish and English side by side will be a great way for him to learn two languages at the same time, maybe without even realizing it.

Dragon’s brother Lee and Rush, currently known to the lucha world as Dralistico, has been a major star of the CMLL promotion in Mexico for the past nine years and made his Lucha Libre AAA debut on Saturday. last night, forming the team of “Los Hermanos Lee”. with his little brother.

Masked Republic founder and CEO Ruben Zamora said of the deal: “Growing up, the luchadores were my superheroes. We look forward to teaming up with Future House to provide an exciting new world for mid-level readers, which will help increase the still under-represented number of Hispanic children’s titles and maintain a truly universal appeal.

The trilogy will be available in print wherever the books are sold, including Barnes and Noble, Amazon and independent bookstores, as well as on all major eBook platforms. The first novel is expected to be released in 2023.

Powell’s point of view: Dralistico worked under the name Dragon Lee before his brother took over the gadget, which he still uses today. Dralistico also worked under the name Mistico after the first Mistico went to WWE to work under the name Sin Cara. And there were two versions of Sin Cara, although Dralistico never portrayed the character. Are you still confused? Maybe the series of books will help break things down.

Ayesha Faruki, an eighth-grade student at Mentor’s Memorial Middle School, recently published “Whisper,” the first book in her fantasy series that she began writing at age 11.

Faruki, now 13, first conceptualized the idea for her book series, titled “Cities of the Lost”, when she was only 9 years old. For Faruki, “Whisper” is just the beginning – she said she has five books planned for the series, and is currently working on writing the second.

She explained that “Whisper” follows the lives of six children who find themselves with access to a magical alternate world after a school trip goes awry.

“These characters take a special trip to their school’s sixth grade camp, and then this trip takes the wrong direction,” she said. “So, on this journey, they unlock this whole new world, and it’s a magical place. Everyone has gifts. So we find out that they are also part of this world and that they have a very important role to play in it. “

She said readers follow the characters as they learn to overcome obstacles in the new world, while juggling keeping their lives in the old one.

“They kind of have to live out their destiny – they were meant to be a big part of this new world, and they have to figure out how to do it,” Faruki said.

Ayesha Faruki is also interested in art and drawing and has created all the illustrations for “Whisper” herself, like this dragon. (Image courtesy of Ayesha Faruki)

Faruki, who has always loved the fantasy genre, remembered wanting to write a book for several years, but struggled to find a plot that she wanted to stick with. After attending the camp herself, she found the starting point she was looking for.

“After sixth year camp,” she said, “I got that inspiration and thought – I’m just going to write this.”

Although the main characters are children, Faruki said, she doesn’t feel that “Whisper” readership should be limited to only people her age.

“I feel like it would be good for anyone between 8 and 16, like a wide range, because it’s kind of one of those ‘Harry Potter’ type books,” he said. she declared. “You can read it regardless of your age. I want this to be a fun thing for everyone.

Faruki also designed and designed the cover for “Whisper”, as well as all of the various illustrations found inside the book. Additionally, she started learning to use computer coding at the age of 6 and has since created her own games and mobile apps, which can be found on her website. https://www.afaruki.com/home.

Publishing a book is an accomplishment in itself, but publishing a book at the age of sixteen is a huge accomplishment.

STARBORN: Singleton resident Evedyn Byrne released the premiere of a four-series fantasy saga after the idea came to her almost three years ago. Image provided.

Budding author Evedyn Byrne composed, published and published her very first fantasy fiction novel titled Starborn; The Rorrim Quartet begins, after the vision of the coming-of-age story flashed in his mind nearly three years ago.

Miss Byrne considers herself a dedicated bookworm and has been a reading enthusiast since learning to read around the age of eleven after having to cross obstacles on the road.

“I struggled to read growing up, but my mom was not impressed by it,” Miss Byrne said.

“Mom would often write her own short stories and read them to my sister and me, which I found very inspiring.”

Miss Byrne admits that much of her creativity and inspiration comes from fantasy and sci-fi based online blogs and news forums as well as global sagas such as the Harry Potter and Twilight series.

“I love sci-fi and fantasy stories, I had the chance this weekend to attend a book swap and pick up a duffel bag full of books to explore,” he said. she declared. Her 200-page novel focuses on sixteen-year-old Issabell Helmer, who is transferred to a boarding school only to find herself in an unexpected situation when she discovers a multiverse.

“Isabell is struggling to adjust to her new life on this mysterious planet, while also discovering what her past and future holds in store for her,” Ms. Byrne explained.

“Attending boarding school on this planet, Izzy meets new friends, animals and creatures of all kinds.” Learning the history of this world and how she is somehow involved in the disappearance of the Immortal Princess, who has lived millennia ago. “

This fifteen-chapter reading is the first in an original four-part saga. The author is also committed to designing the cover art, a compilation of related images that sums up the importance of Izzy.

Miss Byrne’s mother, Elizabeth Heller, said her family were extremely proud of the aspiring author.

“Evedyn is incredibly determined and focused, if she has an idea for something she will make it happen,” Ms. Heller said.

“Her flexibility shows in the way she gets things done, and we’re all so proud of that achievement and very excited for the rest of the series.”

While writing the next article, Miss Byrne will also be focusing on pursuing qualifications to eventually embark on a career in publishing.

“I plan to enroll at TAFE to gain communication and writing skills to get started on my writing and publishing journey,” she said.

Starborn; The Rorrim Quartet begins can be purchased in print or eBook on Booktopia and iBooks.

Pawn of magic

Los Angeles-based Radar Pictures obtained the television rights to American author Mercedes Lackey Valdemar series of fantastic books.

Kit Williamson, creator of Netflix’s LGBTQ comedy series EastSiders and Brittany Cavallaro, author of Charlotte holmes series of books, will write and produce the series, based on Lackey’s novels, marking the franchise’s first screen adaptation, which spans 58 books.

The series will be produced by Radar’s Ted Field, producer on the Jumanji and Riddick movie franchises, as well as the EP on Amazon’s upcoming series The wheel of time, based on the novels by Robert Jordan.

Anthony Tringali, Maria Frisk and Michael Napoliello will produce for Radar, with the first season being based on The last herald-mage trilogy, which includes the novels Pawn of magic, Price of magic and The promise of magic.

The trilogy follows the story of Vanyel, the openly gay and persecuted son of a noble Vadmaran, who is accepted when he is “elected” by companion Yfandes – a horse-like magical being with the power to bond with their chosen one and unleash the potential of psychic abilities and magic.

As he begins his training, Vanyel goes from a troubled and heartbroken trainee to being the most powerful Herald-Mage in Valdemar’s history, and Valdemar’s only hope against a relentless foe determined to completely eradicate the magic of the kingdom.

“Vanyel in The last herald-mage The show was one of the first gay characters I met, and as a 16 year old I can’t stress enough the impact these books have had on me. The Valdemar series was way ahead of its time in portraying LGBTQ characters, and Lackey’s writing offered them a level of depth and complexity that was still very rare, especially in genre storytelling, ”Williamson commented.

Cavallaro added: “It is an absolute dream to adapt the Valdemar books alongside Radar Pictures and Kit Williamson. Twenty years ago Kit and I became friends at residential school and we’re bonded by our love for Mercedes Lackey’s job, and we’re so excited to begin the process of bringing it to the screen.

The Valdemar series was way ahead of its time in portraying LGBTQ characters, and Lackey’s writing offered them a level of depth and complexity that was still very rare, especially in genre storytelling, ”said Williamson.

“It’s an absolute dream to adapt Valdemar’s books alongside Radar Pictures and Kit Williamson. Twenty years ago Kit and I became friends at residential school and we’re bonded by our love for Mercedes Lackey’s work, and we’re thrilled to begin the process of bringing it to the screen, ”Cavallaro added.

Radar partner Michael Napoliello said: “Radar is honored to bring this series to life for its many fans. “

Radar Pictures is replaced by United Talent Agency. Kit Williamson and Brittany Cavallaro are replaced by Buchwald, and Mercedes Lackey is replaced by Russell Galen at the literary agency Scovil Galen Ghosh.

Nothing like the recognition and validation taken from the pages of a book, especially when representation seems so rare to members of the BIPOC and LGBTQ + community. As the entertainment industry attempts to change toxic stereotypes and diversify narratives beyond the norm, it is essential to elevate minority narratives that might otherwise be overlooked.

Although the United States is home to more than 23 million Asian Americans, the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism has found that only one in twenty speaking roles in films goes to Asians and only 1% of the leading roles. . Misrepresentation in the media was found to promote negative emotions and invoke “a psychological toll on the groups represented”. To elevate these narratives, the following recommendations and reviewed books feature Asian-American LGBTQ + protagonists of the YA genre, starting with a passionate fangirl and social wallflower, Jessica Tran.

Not your sidekick, by CB Lee, follows Jess as she tries to live up to her family’s superhero legacy, get her high school crush to notice her, and manifest superpowers. But without any exceptional gift, she resigns herself to local internships in order to polish her dull CV. Between discovering heartbreaking secrets about the superhero society hidden in her small desert town and confronting her personal demons, Jess navigates a first relationship, expectations and what it means to be a hero.

At first, with its hidden identities, romances, and blurry lines between wickedness and heroism, the premise doesn’t seem completely unique among other young adult superhero fictions. However, Not your sidekick is above all a high school love story between Jess and Abby Jones, the brilliant and popular volleyball captain. Modern fantasy and action serves more as a backdrop for a narrative about the pursuit of self-identity, whether in Jess’s family, at school, or in a crumbling and stressed society.

The tale is relatively straightforward, and while its twists and turns may seem cliché, the story still clearly delivers its message of self-worth and bravery. It’s a light, casual read despite its dystopian setting and also offers an LGBTQ + portrayal of a bisexual author. Lee’s perspective enriches her narrative and her characters with an authenticity that is all too rare in the YA genre and American media in general. Jess is also a second-generation Chinese-Vietnamese American who struggles with conflicts that many Asian-American readers will sympathize with, including a limited understanding of the language and a sense of isolation from both cultures. LGBTQ + and Asian American readers may find solace in the relativity of Lee’s truthfulness, and the book also simultaneously provides an opportunity for out-of-group readers to develop sympathy. Overall, CB Lee inscribing his own personal experiences into the novel by grounding his own identity around the protagonist provides a refreshing and true portrayal.

There’s something for everyone to resonate with, whether it’s a friendship drama or Jess’ creative, overblown reverie of confessing to her crush. His struggle to be “… overtaken by [her] ridiculous and impossible ideas because that meant she never had to try anything real ”(Lee, chapter 7) is a universal feeling that anyone who has ever loved someone can relate to.

Globally, Not your sidekick is the X Men meets Aliénor & Parc. It merges superheroes and combat-packed action with crushes, high school projects, and first kisses. When dark dystopias and high fantasy complexes seemingly reign over the shelves, CB Lee’s work almost serves as a palate cleaner with its simple yet satisfying story about a high school fantasy romance with a side to save the world and everyone. rest. CB Lee also wrote another fantastic romance, Seven tears at high tide, featuring another Asian American bisexual protagonist and his slightly mythological summer romance with a boy named Morgan.

But if contemporary romance with a touch of whimsy isn’t your style, or if you’ve already devoured the works of CB Lee, these are a few books with an LGBTQ + portrayal of Asian American descent written by authors who identify with two communities.

The Tensorate The novels by award-winning, Asian-American, non-binary author Neon Yang offer LGBTQ + representation in a unique and fantasy sci-fi universe. This series begins with Black tides from the sky, where two twins with different gifts struggle to find their place in a simmering war.

Gear breaker is the first novel by Korean-American author Zoe Hana Mikuta. This rediscovered family story follows two half-white, half-Asian soldiers tangled in a conflict between mechanical deities with ulterior motives and an enemy-to-lover romance as the world burns down.

As the demand for precise and meaningful representations increases, these books can only lead readers to wonder with hope about a future and what children of all genders, ethnicities and sexualities will be able to immerse themselves in the pages. of a novel, to smile broadly and announce, “The hero is like me!”
