Only the PS5 is powerful enough to run the new Final Fantasy game

AN INTERVIEW with senior executives working on Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth revealed the reasons why the second part of the remake will only be available on PlayStation 5.

Despite the release of the first installment of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake on PlayStation 4, Square Enix has announced that the second part, officially called Rebirth, will be a PS5 exclusive.

The reason for this is that the developers believe the last-gen console isn’t powerful enough to load up the much larger world of Rebirth.

In an interview with Japanese site Gamer, producer Yoshinori Kitase revealed that only the PS5, with its much-improved specs, was powerful enough to avoid charging bottlenecks.

As translated by GLHF:

“The quality of the graphics is the same [as Remake] but the PS5 has faster access to the SSD [console’s memory].

“If you’ve played the first part of the story, you’ll know that Rebirth enters a vast world after escaping Midgar.

“Because Rebirth takes place in an expanding world, the stress of loading could create a bottleneck.

“To play Rebirth smoothly, we felt the PS5 specs were necessary.”

In the same interview, Mariko Sato, producer of the upcoming Crisis Core remake, FF7 Reunion, also revealed more information about the upcoming release.

Originally released for the PSP, the trailer revealed some of the story elements, as well as some graphics that looked consistent with the main FF7 remake.

However, Sato is hesitant to call it a remake, despite the game being completely overhauled. She revealed:

“Crisis Core FF7 Reunion faithfully recreates the story of the original game. We also left the interface and core gameplay as it is.

“For this reason, we are creating the game with the idea in mind that it is a remaster rather than a remake.”

The reunion is expected to come out at the end of this year, although no specific date has yet been given.

Unlike Rebirth, it will be available on less powerful consoles.

In addition to PS5, it will also be available for PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC, and even Nintendo Switch.
