‘Palm Springs’ Wins Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy Film, Among Others, at Critics Super Choice Awards 2021

The first Critics Choice Super Awards took place tonight. The awards show was created to honor the most popular and fan-obsessed genres in both TV and film, including superheroes/comic books, sci-fi/fantasy, horror, action and animation.

Boasting nominations for Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy Film, Best Actor in a Sci-Fi/Fantasy Film, Best Actress in a Sci-Fi/Fantasy Film and Best Villain in a Motion Picture, Palm Springs managed to win an award in all but one of the categories in which it was nominated. The film won Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy Film, while leads Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti won Best Actor and Actress in a Sci-Fi/Fantasy Film, respectively (JK Simmons was sadly edged out by Jim Carrey for Best Villain in a Motion Picture).

Palm Springs follows characters Nyles (Andy Samberg) and Sarah (Cristin Milioti) who have a chance meeting at the Palm Springs wedding of Sarah’s sister Tala (Camila Mendes) and her fiancé Abe (Tyler Hoechlin) and then find themselves stuck in an infinite time loop. As Sarah comes to terms with being stuck, she begins to adopt Nyles’s carefree nihilistic attitude as the two fall in love with each other while trying to make the most of the endless November 9th and… accept their new reality.
