Scout’s Matchday 1 picks for free SPITCH Fantasy game
Sponsored by SPITCH
The Premier League is back and, to celebrate, fantasy football management game SPITCH has launched two one-season options for the 2022/23 campaign – one of which is free and has a £2,500 prize pool .
AN INTRODUCTION TO SPITCH
Imagine a version of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) where you have a Free Hit token each week and are only judged on your best five matchdays. With SPITCH, a week of accidentally forgetting to play won’t be a problem – even from April onwards, you’ll still have a chance to win prizes!
Unlike FPL, managers can actually over or over budget by ₵1,200, which then determines how many plus or minus points they start the round with.
Each week of the “Season” mode requires a new formation without a captain. Managers are allowed up to nine players from the same club and can change teams during the day. “Safety Net” automatically replaces non-runners, while a sophisticated scoring system rewards defensive actions in a way FPL does not.
THE FREE ‘CLASSIC’ GAME IS £250 FOR MATCH DAY 1
So far, SPITCH has focused exclusively on individual matchday matches. The “Classic” mode offers three heights to choose from:
- Largest winning zone: Whether it’s free or paid entry, there are smaller payouts but an equal amount for the top 70% entrants.
- Double or nothing: The top 42.5% get double their stake, regardless of their ranking.
- Tournament: Rewards more money for higher placed finishes, with a 25% winning zone.
For this week only, the free play will have a prize pool of over £700 and the winner will receive £250.
SCOUT MATCHDAY 1 PROGRAM
With the added option of using a 3-3-4 or 4-2-4 formation, we took advantage of the latter for the first weekend of action.
Liverpool travel to Fulham, where a defensive brace from Alisson (₵41) and Andrew Robertson (₵104) is backed to deliver. In a game where successful crosses are rewarded with 18 points, Robertson ranked fourth for this among all Premier League players last season. Aston Villa’s Lucas Digne (₵58) came in eighth.
The offensive tendencies of Reece James (₵138) and Kieran Trippier (₵67) will also come in handy here as they face Everton and Nottingham Forest.
As explained in our introductory guide to SPITCH, defensive midfielders are potentially even more desirable than forwards, as every successful pass, interception and tackle is rewarded with points.
That is why Rodri (₵160) was calculated as the best performing midfielder last season as his 2,629 successful passes were only beaten by an injured teammate Aymeric Laporte (₵144). The Spaniard also made a league-leading 292 digs. Versatile midfielders like Bruno Guimaraes (₵72) should excel.
Finally, it is interesting to see FPL midfielders such as Mohammad Salah (₵250), pedro neto (₵90), Luis Diaz (₵125) and Jarrod Bowen (₵100) labeled as before.
Salah and Neto will relish the prospect of lining up against Fulham and Leeds United defences, while Callum Wilson (₵49) is heavily backed to score against Forest. No introduction is necessary for Harry Kane (₵160), scorer of 11 league goals and six assists in just 14 appearances against Southampton.
