Sorare becomes the official MLS NFT Fantasy game
Fantasy football (soccer) game NFT Sorare today announced a partnership with Major League Soccer (MLS). With this agreement, Sorare will become the official NFT fantasy game of North America’s Premier Soccer League.
MLS x Sorare partnership will see NFTs of all MLS players
Sorare announced that the deal with the fastest growing sports league in North America is for several years. A press release on the deal notes that it is the latest example of MLS’s commitment to providing fan experiences across all platforms.
Notably, MLS also has one of the youngest and most tech-savvy fan bases among North American sports leagues. So, the deal with Sorare means that for the first time, MLS fans will be able to collect and trade their favorite players’ NFTs. The NFT collection will be launched in spring 2022.
Chris Schlosser, Senior Vice President of Major League Soccer’s Emerging Ventures, said of the partnership:
“We are excited to continue our phased approach to bringing NFTs to MLS with industry leader Sorare.” He added: “Using the latest technology to provide fans with the ability to add MLS players and future stars to their personal collections and provide them with an interactive, free-to-play fantasy football game has made Sorare the obvious choice.
Sorare enters the US market
Certainly, Sorare is one of the biggest names in NFT when it comes to attracting mainstream audiences. NFT game combines NFT and fantasy sports with the most popular game in the world.
To sum up, Sorare is a fantasy football game that allows players to buy, sell and trade NFT player cards. Next, NFT owners create weekly queues using their NFTs. Finally, they score points based on the performance of their players in real football matches.
By partnering with MLS, Sorare completes its first transaction in the United States. In fact, Sorare actually opened its US office at the end of 2021. The move will add the 28 MLS teams to the 228 clubs around the world that Sorare already has official licenses with.
Sorare COO Ryan Spoon said of the partnership:
“We are thrilled to welcome Major League Soccer to our Sorare family. Our global community of sports fans can’t wait to start collecting and playing with their favorite league teams and players.
The move also recalls Project NFT’s largest partnership with an American sports league. Specifically, Dapper Labs and the NBA’s NBA Top Shot. In fact, Top Shot is one of the projects that gets a lot of credit for kickstarting the growing NFT craze over the past 18 months.
Unlike Top Shot, which sees fans collect and trade game highlights, Sorare encourages more active fan engagement due to its fantasy gameplay aspect. To this end, Spoon talks about the fantastic NFT model.
“From collectors to early NFT buyers, our NFT x Fantasy model uniquely engages fans with the sport they love in a way that goes beyond just watching, and makes them feel truly connected to each team. , player and game.”
